Every Connect member chose to join and agreed to be contacted about research. They’ve told us what assistive technology they use, what platforms and services they rely on, and what barriers they experience online. When you brief us, we’re not guessing who to recruit. We’re matching you to people who are experts in their own experience.

Connect members interact with digital devices and online content in different ways, shaped by their needs and barriers they face:

  • Seeing – difficulty seeing text, images or visual detail on a screen (for example due to blindness, low vision or colour blindness)
  • Hearing – difficulty hearing audio or spoken content (for example due to being D/deaf, hard of hearing, or an auditory processing difference)
  • Physical – difficulty with physical movements like using a mouse, typing on a keyboard or using a touchscreen (for example due to cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease or a spinal cord injury)
  • Thinking – difficulty concentrating, remembering steps or processing information (for example due to autism, ADHD, dementia, or an intellectual or developmental disability)

Across the panel, members use 20+ different assistive technology and adaptive strategies, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, alternative navigation and braille displays. One in five combine more than one tool to interact with digital products.

Experts by experience

Our research panel range from 19 to 76 years old, with a minimum of two years’ hands-on experience with their assistive technology. You’re learning from people who know their tools well, not someone using a screen reader for the first time in your session.

Reach that matters commercially, not just ethically

5.5 million Australians, 21.4% of the population, live with disability (ABS, 2022). Connect gives you a direct access to that audience with 74% of members based in Australia and 22% in New Zealand. It also supports your obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, with the Australian Human Rights Commission’s guiding what that means in practice.
